Avoid 'summer slamming' burglar alarm scams

May 10, 2011 | Often college students in summer jobs, they travel in teams and go door-to-door to woo alarm users away from their existing alarm companies—and to new systems with extremely low monthly monitoring fees. At first blush, this might seem like a win-win for the homeowner who’d like to pay less for the same protection. But what often results is faulty or poorly installed replacement equipment, along with monitoring fees that don’t stay low for long. Some in the industry frown upon the practice. “This stuff drives us crazy, because it creates a bad image for legitimate door-to-door sales people in the alarm industry,” said Jamie Haenggi, chief marketing officer for Protection 1. “Homeowners should be wary of inviting people into their homes, showing their vulnerable security points. Ensuring that proper background checks are conducted and reps are trained properly is something that people should look into when choosing a company.” Learn your options.Read more »

Oklahoma City, OK (OPENPRESS) May 16, 2011 – Characterized by a fascinating geography and rich history, Oklahoma State is a crossroads of cultures. Despite its endearing features, however, the State is not spared from breaking and entering offenses which have reached 37,815 in 2009, according to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Given the uncertainties of the times, it is imperative for Oklahomans to have their own security alarm systems that can decrease burglary incidents. More often than not, securing their homes or businesses with door or window locks is not enough; it takes an Oklahoma alarm monitoring system sold and installed by a specialty company to fully do the job. The problem, however, is that not all alarm system and security companies are equal in terms of the product quality and skills that they offer. Safelink Systems takes pride in keeping a home or a business in Oklahoma secure using the highest caliber of equipment coupled with prompt service at an affordable price. Professional staff of this Oklahoma alarm monitoring company represents the best in the industry and are vigorously trained and certified in the products they sell or install. SafelinkSystems.net offers Oklahoma alarm monitoring packages through the Safelink Secure, Safelink Secure Plus and Safelink Advantage options that customers can choose from based on their specific needs. Has anyone been offered a free burglar alarm system and take advantage of the offer?

Feb 08, 7086 by Jelly Bean
Is it free or have a catch or not we have been offered one and ensure it is up and up.
apx does I know because my hubby used to sell them however you do have to pay from the monthly monitoring which I think is fare since they are giving you the actual alarm system for free which I think some companies will charge you for the equipment and that usaly has a value of anywhere from $1,800 to $3,500 depending on the size of the house and how much equipment you need. you should check out this website to get some quotes and compare the different companies out there.

What is the Best Burglar Alarm System?

Apr 02, 2006 by sagittarius_love
I AM GOING TO BE RENTING A NEW HOUSE AND AM LOOKING INTO ALARM SYSTEMS. HAVE YOU HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS, AND WHICH IS THE CHEAPEST WAY TO GO?
The absolute best security system you can get would be hard-wired (no remote control, battery-operated units that need their battery changed every year), alarming every door, window and in-wall air-conditioner units you may have. Every window must be protected by detecting opening, as well as if the glass is smashed or cracked (via a "bug" on every piece of glass). This method, although very secure, can run into the thousands of dollars for a standard, 20 window, 3 door home.
Since you're renting your home, there's no need to keep your system when you leave, so ADT, or Brinks should suffice, but keep in mind, they'll charge you an arm and a leg for each "additional" opening you alarm (included in their lowball price is perhaps 2 doors, 1 window and a remote motion detector).
A good price for central station monitoring should be in the $20/mo range. $25/mo is approaching outrageous.
However, assuming you're not a frail, old woman living by yourself, your best bet is to go to Radio Shack and buy a 4-piece remote control motion detector set with built-in alarm system for less than $100, mount them in vulnerable locations (one by each door area and one coming up the stairs to the second floor, assuming your bedroom is on the second floor). Your biggest concern is protecting your life, not so much your valuables, so this advance warning, in the middle of the night, will give you ample time to reach for your shotgun and blow his head off. Remember, if an intruder is in your home, uninvited, and you fear for your life, you may use any means necessary to protect yourself, including deadly force.
A pit-bull works well too.
Good luck.
