Atrix's ability to outsmart other phones

Feb 08, 4184 |

ExecTech sees lots of clever innovation in smartphones and tablets, but often we struggle to find a killer feature: something that will drag consumers from well-established mobile platforms such as Apple's iOS.

Motorola, however, may gain traction with its new Atrix smartphone, because it is distinctly different.

On the surface, it seems another, yet notably zippy addition to the range of smartphones running Google's Android Froyo (v2.2) operating system.

But its ability to perform so many functions is what sets it apart.

As a smartphone, the Atrix is fast. It is dual core with two 1GHz processors on an NVidia Tegra 2 chip.

With 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal DDR2 memory expandable by 32GB with a microSD card, an HDMI and micro USB slot, it's well resourced.

It has a bright 4in display, a 1930 mAh battery, and is light at 135g, the weight of the original HTC Desire.

Camera-wise, it's on a par with iPhone4. It has a rear-facing 5- megapixel HD camera and front-facing VGA camera.

The 'safe' in SUV

May 07, 2011 |

Here’s a car that’s built for mum, dad and the kids.

A SHINY new Volvo XC60 2.0 Turbo Powershift sports utility vehicle (SUV) was delivered to me for a short weekend test drive and I was immediately smitten by what I saw.

I’ve seen a few XC60s on the road but I got up close and personal with this one. The sleek, curvaceous body of this mid-sized SUV implies speed and agility, a far cry from the mid-80s brick I used to drive around.

While the XC60 2.0T can be classified as an SUV, it does not come with an all-wheel drive system (AWD). Instead, it runs on its front paws. It’s becoming quite a trend now to make SUVs with just front- or rear-wheel drive. Makes sense, since many people who buy SUVs will actually never see the dust or mud of a dirt track, therefore rendering the extra grip of a 4WD system unnecessary.

Plus the weight savings on the car sans AWD will also make it more efficient. Less weight to carry around means more power-to-weight ratio or lower fuel consumption.

What is the best back up sensor/alarm for car.?

Jun 02, 2007 by yadayadayada
I want to purchase an alarm sensor to detect objects behind my vehicle to protect my child. There are a wide range of systems/prices etc. so I'm looking on input from someone who actually has or installs these.
Let me clarify.. If I've just gotten into my car to leave why would I get out to look again unless I suspected that my child was nearby. I am interested in this item should my child unexpectedly follow me outside after I have already gotten in my car to leave. With safety locks, etc. the liklihood of this happening is rare, but I don't want to take the chance. (1 Child a week is killed in the US in rollover accidents) By the way... No one I know walks around the car to check it out every time they get in (searching for flats etc).

I am also trying to decide between the camera and the audible alarm.
That must be a man thing?
The best sensor? Well, generally speaking the good Lord gave you two of them. It's called getting out and looking! And I'm not being sarcastic. If more people would just take the time to Get Out And Look (G.O.A.L. fromt the smith driving system) we'd have alot less incidents.

Anwyay, if you want the "electronic" protection devices, I lean more toward the video rather than the sensors.

Audiovox makes some real nice ones...

I do not recommend buying one in the net though. Go to the car accessories store and check some shows and talk to techs.

Fortunately safe!
