Car thieves to lose accident benefits

Feb 08, 2756 |

CONVICTED auto thieves and their passengers injured in a crash will no longer get benefits from Manitoba Public Insurance under new legislation introduced Wednesday by Attorney General Andrew Swan.

Swan, minister responsible for MPI, promised the clampdown on benefits several weeks ago, but it came on the same day the Opposition Progressive Conservatives launched a radio ad appealing to Manitobans to support their own bill to cut off benefits.

Swan dismissed the ad as Tory posturing, trying to take credit for an NDP initiative.

"They may have been very concerned that we were bringing in an effective bill that was actually going to deal with the issue," Swan said. "So I suppose (Tory Leader) Hugh McFadyen might have run down to the studio and taped the ad."

He said unlike the Tories' private member's bill, the NDP's bill will also cut off benefits for life to people convicted of flight from a police officer, street racing and taking a motor vehicle without consent. The bill is expected to be passed in June.

RB Council Meeting Recap: Marijuana; Auto Theft and Redistricting

Apr 29, 2011 |

The Rancho Bernardo Community Council held its monthly meeting on Thursday at the RB Library.

Highlights from the agenda:

Medical marijuana : San Diego police Officer Susan Steffen spoke about MediBloom, a dispensary that opened at 11665 Avena Pl., Suite 106 just off of Webb Park at the beginning of April. A number of residents and neighboring businesses have complained, especially after a burglary and robbery there. Steffen said the dispensary was notified Wednesday that it is not in compliance with city regulations, including operating without a business license. The new city policy on dispensaries prohibits them from being within 600 feet of parks, and this dispensary is just off of Webb Park. Some questioned whether Webb Park counts since it is a private park owned by the Bernardo Town Center Property Owners Association. Roberta Robinson, a lawyer whose office is near the dispensary, said she feels unsafe and has begun carrying a large flashlight Read more »

Car Immobilizer??

Jul 12, 2008 by Jocelyn S
Need some help, does anyone have any info on immobilizers?

I drove my car yesterday and it started fine, once I got out and got back in to start the car it didn't turn over no sound nothing happened! Lights and stereo start and worked fine so it wasn't the battery.
So I just walked away!!!!!

Went to deal with it this morning, and it started!

Is it hooked into the battery, or do I need to replace a part?

I know what it does I just need info on how to maintain it, or should I get it taken out???
Do they need to be replaced once they get to a certain age?

Please help if you can cause I hate being stranded all by myself!

Some crazy people out there!

Thank you, for your time!
( it could be the starter) but I don't think that is the problem, cause I have been driving the car with over heating problems for a bit now and just fixed the problem...I plan to get it looked at, need to feel safe!! I've but more money into it then its worth and feel like I cant sell it or I'll be back at square one!
Its standard!!!!
Your right its the starter!!!!
Thanks!!!
What this sounds like is your starter, which gets hot from the engine running, which is normal of course, is expanding and ceasing up. The result is, your starter won't make a peep when you turn the ignition on when the car is hot. After wards, when the car cools down, the starter works just fine. A good test of this, is to drive your car around and let it get good and hot. Then go home and park it. Let it set for about 5- 10 minutes, then try to start it. It most likely won't. The fix is to replace the starter. If you are a do it yourself - well, to start off the car and car parts to a shop to check for free. Possible causes other battery is weak or loose connection wires. Good luck.
  • If not start precentor may have loose connections.
