Pioneer integrates iOS into your automobile with AppRadio

May 30, 2011 |

Pioneer recently unveiled its latest innovation, the AppRadio, which they said is the first in-vehicle product designed to utilize the processing power, storage capacity, network connectivity and apps of the iPhone and iPod touch (running iOS 4.2) as the primary source for its information and entertainment capabilities. As Engadget described it, it’s basically “a big car stereo that plays nice with iOS.”

The capacitive touchscreen enables control of most functions using similar touch and motion gestures as many of today’s most popular smartphones, but in a larger 6.1-inch screen designed specifically for safer in-vehicle operation. Other features include Bluetooth connectivity, a 30-pin connector for connection to your iOS devices using Pioneer’s AppRadio app, an external mic, GPS antenna, full iPod music control, Google Maps integration, and specially formatted apps from Rdio and Pandora.

Does a built-in window antenna affect the radio reception in an after-market deck in your car?

Dec 08, 2006 by jit bag
My boyfriend recently got a new car and transferred his after-market mp3 deck into it. Since the transfer, the radio signal isn't very strong. He took it to his audio-install guy, and they said it's because of the antenna. Is this true? Or did they just do a crappy install?
Antennas built into the windows do have reduced reception capability. Aftermarket radios may also have reduced capability....add the two together and it would be more noticable than just the stock radio.
  • No it doesn't
