Smartphone integration is also opening up more opportunities for selling quality sound to existing customers and fresh demographics. Here’s what executives from a handful of key 12-volt manufacturers have to say about what they’re doing to help dealers leverage new technologies and drive the sale bread-and-butter solutions. Make sure to check out this month’s /Dealerscope /for our special features on the 12-volt market. There certainly is a lot of changing technology out there. With some of the things being [integrated] not just into the phones but, in almost every new car, it’s amazing what they come equipped with—all this technology at your fingertips on your dashboard. That has been a big change. Now, how it blasts through your car as far as turning up the radio volume, I don’t see that changing as much. Kas Alves, Executive Vice President, Scosche*:*If you look at our YouTube video showing a prototype of our first-ever Scosche iPad dash install, that is going to be the trend this year and next: fully integrating a smartphone or a tablet into a vehicle. It received over 700,000 hits. Those types of devices will be the new car stereos. That’s what we’ll be working on within the next year—how to enable safe driving through software and technology while fully integrating those devices into the car. Scosche will develop dash kits specifically for each car to do that. Probably within the next year, you’ll see some sort of product from us for how to mount an iPad in the dash with safe-driving technology.

Memphis is sponsoring a contest giving away the same sound system shown in the movie and many car stereo dealers have teamed up with local movie theaters to promote the movie. Looks like everyone involved got their money’s worth.
