I bought this product from a cheaper source, but use these reviews to determine which head unit to buy. The MEX-BT5700U had all the features I was looking for at a decent price. I have a '92 Toyota Pickup with a manual transmission, so Bluetooth calling was my top priority (safety) as my state hasn't implemented handsfree calling laws yet. My calls at highway speed (windows up) were clear and my caller only noticed a slight hum/noise and reported I sounded very clear. This was using the external mic provided on default settings for the gain and noise cancelling. Note: if an external mic is provided with ANY head unit(this one comes with an external mic)USE IT, DO NOT bother with a head unit that you cannot add or use an external mic....proper mic placement is key. Purchased this unit for a 98 pathfinder - really just wanted to add Bluetooth and iPod. Have only been playing with it for a short time but thought i would offer some feedback for others looking at the unit. Overall i am very satisfied with the unit and for the price i paid there is no reason to complain. (using the exisitng Bose amp and speakers that were factory installed) Flaws: 1. iPod control from the head unit is basically useless if you have alot of music. Solution just control the music from the ipod. use the head unit to advance songs but again almost impossible to find the song you want when you have several thousand songs. having playlists created makes it a bit easier. Sony could have done a much better job with the ipod interface. 2. Display - truely is tough to see in daylight. turning off the background graphics helped some but just very hard to see. I have just installed the product today but I have done extensive research before choosing this particular model. I was looking for a player with BT for phone use (that could access the phone's directory) and control my Ipod. I also found that the Pioneer's were had a too complex interface, and this one didn't (it still has the buttons for station memory). I can say that I'm completely satisfied with the product. The display is very readable, and the interface is very simple. You can access all the menus using mainly 2 or 3 touches and that gets you everywhere. The Ipod interface is simple enough and you can navigate by playlist, genre, artist, track... The Bluetooth function is very simple and I've tried with my Nokia E71 and my Blackberry 8520. It sounds like he has a problem in the wiring of his car. He must try to connect the right speaker to the left of the radio. If he comes to short in the left speaker. Then he will return his call for speakers sit. I hope this helps.

clarion car cd player problem?
Jun 04, 2009 by challenginguki have a Clarion BD169R car cd player , recently very hot weather and playing to loud killed it , i checked all fuses but none blown so plugged unit back in and a miricle it works again . on the back of the unit the fuse can be fitted in 2 ways as there are 3 female slots , in positiion 1 (top/middle) it says NOM on the 2nd (middle/bottom) it says VW , have left it in NOM at the moment but it came out of a leyland DAF and i have put it into a mark3 golf , should the fuse be set in the VW positon ? or am i just putting 2&2 together and coming up with 8 ? also at mo it wont hold it's memory (fuse or no memory wire ) ? it was a straight plug into origanal VW wiring .... thank you Thor
well bit the bullet and changed the fuse to vw position , and i now have memory and the system sounds louder and bassier !!! so guessing it was using the memory wire for main power and VW stands for Volks Wagon shame they didn't put that on the instruction manual !!!

If I was you I would trace the wires from the cd player to the multi pin connector from the car. Make sure that the white wire is connected for both the car to the cd player. The white wire is the constant power supply from the car battery for the memory on the cd player.
Try changing the fuse to the VW position and see if it works, I don't think it will make a difference but give it a try.
Last but not least, most modern CD players need a good supply of cool air to keep them going. Unfrotrunalty the golf has poor air flow behind the dash as it can cause the CD player to shut down.
I have an in car DVD player and in the recent hot weather my DVD also shut down, turned it off for 5mins and then turned it back on.
