Driving the Toyota Prius V: a Prius With Costco Capacity

According to Toyota, its Prius accounts for 52 percent of the United States hybrid market and outsells all its competitors combined. It’s no surprise, then, that the company would want to give the car some siblings.

Toyota brought a preproduction fleet of its latest hybrid, the Prius V, to Westchester County on Wednesday and offered drives along the Connecticut-New York border. Though journalists could choose among various scenic routes, given the car’s clear family-hauler aspirations, a trip to a big-box food wholesaler would not have been inappropriate.

The V, which stands for “Versatility,” according to Toyota , will be joined by a plug-in Prius sedan and a smaller car based on the Prius C concept , first shown at the Detroit auto show in January, in the next two years. The V, with extra legroom and 58 percent more cargo space than its sedan counterpart, is the firstborn and is expected to be on the market in the fall.

According to Rick LoFaso, corporate marketing manager for cars and vans at Toyota, the V took its cues from the American lifestyle. Hiroshi Kayukawa, the car’s chief engineer, visited malls, big-box stores and tourist sites to see how Americans shop, Mr. LoFaso said, and concluded that — surprise surprise — we like to move a lot of stuff.

G. Chambers Williams III: Transit offers roomy space in a compact

Jun 17, 2011 | Highlights: Made in Turkey and introduced in 2009 in the U.S. market, the Transit Connect is intended mostly for use as a small commercial vehicle. But Ford now also offers it in a five-passenger family version, and it has great appeal as a roomy van with a small profile and decent fuel economy — not to mention an affordable price.

Roomy vehicles with compact exteriors have always appealed to me, and I've owned a bunch of them over the years, beginning with a late '60s Volkswagen Bus.

My latest favorite in this category is the 2011 Transit Connect XLT Premium Wagon ($23,200 plus $805 freight), a five-passenger family vehicle that Ford created from its compact commercial van.

This isn't the most styling boxy compact van on the market; that honor, in my book, is a tie between the Nissan Cube and Kia Soul. But the Transit Connect wagon has more space, is really kind of cool-looking once it grows on you a bit, has decent fuel economy (21 mpg city/26 highway) and is quite affordable, considering what you get.

Where can I find the fuse for the rear park system (RPS20) on a 54 Nissan Almera?

The rear park system should beep when reverse is engaged but there is no beep at all. Can this system have been disabled if so how? Where is the fuse so I can check it (in engine fuse box or in fuse box on drivers side). Any help troubleshooting the rear park system is greatly appreciated.
Hi there, the rps is fitted to the nsr of your car, open your boot and pull back the interior carpet to the left handside as you stand, if you look to the rear of the lamp unit inside you will see the the whole where you can place your hand(mind the sharp edges), you will find the control unit stuck usually using velcro, yes velcro. remove the control unit and with the control unit in your hand you will see 6 connectors, 4 for the sensors, 1 for the sounder and 1 for power, ground and system reset. using a test lamp or preferably a multimeter check the voltage supplied to the unit, ign on(eng NOT idling) and with reverse selected making sure the reverse lamp is on, you should have battery voltage at the red wire of the black plug if not check the connection at the reverse light at the rear of the lamp unit. If this is ok, using the multimeter select continuity and check the black wire for continuity to earth, if this is not present check the earth connection to the chassis. If these are both present then it looks as if its either a loose connection to your control unit or the unit itself is faulty( not uncommon too ).

ps If you manage to fix problem you may need to reset system which is another story but simple if I say so myself.
  • IN the USA we experence a lot of rear sensor noise makers failing it is located in the spedometer cover just behind the instrument on left drive cars. If your switch light stays off all the time I would try that first. To enter diagnosis mode you have to turn the ingnition on and with in 3 seconds move that switch on and off ten times to hear the beep codes. But if the beep has failed you cannot enter diagnosis mode.
