I have a cassette head unit and had used a cassette adaptor to play my IPOD.

I want to upgrade to a CD car stereo but CD car stereo these days will only play your IPOD with the used of an FM transmitter or modulator and the reviews for these products are really bad.

Can anyone provide a straight answer. Coz if this 2 are really crappy then I'll just settle for a new cassette stereo that's a little better than my old one (maybe one with built-in popcorn machine!haha).

  • Are you talking about an OEM stereo. Because I know you could get an aftermarket one that would either have a line-in, meaning you would have a wire plug into your headphone jack and the other end would go into the radio. Or you could buy a radio that has a dock connector, which is the best way to go. It will keep your iPod charged, and you can use the radio controls to play your music.

    I have worked with FM trasmitter/modulators. I had a cheap one and hated it. Poor sound quality.

transmitter AM, FM, QPSK... are systems
they consist of an antenna system driven by
a power amplifier, driven by
a modulator, this is what determined the type of modulation AM, FM...
it is driven from the signal to be transmitted.

  • I am assuming you are talking about the FM transmitters used to play MP3 players or CD players through your car radio. In that context, an FM transmitter and an FM Modulator are the same thing. These re electronic devices that plug into the headphone jack on your MP3 or CD player and transmit the music to the radio in your car. These units are used by people who have a car radio that doesn't have an AUX or MP3 input.
