SARAH GRAY: Should DVDs be used in the car?

May 25, 2011 | When you are an adult, you have a bit of control over the situation. You can decide when and where to stop for breaks, what music you listen to, and at what temperature you are most comfortable. And if you are driving, there are a whole slew of other variables that can make the drive a bit more pleasant, or at least seem a bit faster. It was the longer car trips that became quite boring. Driving down to Orlando or out to the Rocky Mountains takes a good couple of days of driving. My parents tried to keep us entertained. We got activity books, special treats (which my mom would fling from the passenger seat to the back of the minivan) and more kid approved music. Then, of course, when I got a walkman, the trips also drastically improved. Then our little family of three became four (and now five) and we needed to look into a larger vehicle, which would accommodate all of us, all our stuff, and our dog. So we got a minivan.
